The short answer

MoneyThumb now sells its bank statement converters online, metered per conversion: Individual is $24.95 a month for 5 conversions, Standard $49.95 for 20 and Pro $99.95 for 60, with annual plans about a third cheaper. One conversion is one monthly statement whatever its page count. Its desktop 2qbo Convert Pro line is no longer offered in its store. BankXLSX meters pages instead: Starter is $49 a month, or $24 billed yearly, for 2,500 pages, and exports Excel, CSV and JSON, plus QBO on the $149 Plus plan. Short statements usually cost less on BankXLSX; very long ones can cost less on MoneyThumb.

Why People Look for a MoneyThumb Alternative

MoneyThumb is a long-standing, capable converter, especially for QuickBooks and Quicken users. But it is not the right fit for everyone. These are the reasons buyers shop around.

The Desktop License Is Gone

Firms that relied on the one-time 2qbo Convert Pro license find the product is no longer offered in the MoneyThumb store, so the choice now is a subscription either way, and it is worth comparing the metering.

OCR Costs Extra

Scanned paper statements need PDF+, which MoneyThumb sells as a separate add-on at $199.95. Clients who photograph statements make that add-on a requirement rather than an option.

Short Statements Burn Conversions

A conversion is one statement whether it has 1 page or 40. A bookkeeper handling many one and two page card statements runs through a 20 conversion plan well before the month ends.

Output Is QBO/QFX First

MoneyThumb is built around QBO, QFX, OFX, and QIF for direct import into QuickBooks and Quicken. If you just want a clean Excel sheet, that is more file-format machinery than you need.

Per-Product Buying

Different conversions can mean different products (pdf2qbo, pdf2csv, pdf2ofx). Buyers who only need one clean spreadsheet would rather not sort through a product matrix.

You Want Browser-Based and Fast

Some bookkeepers prefer to open a tab, upload a statement, and download a sheet, with no software updates or maintenance plans to manage.

How BankXLSX Compares as a MoneyThumb Alternative

BankXLSX is a focused, online converter that turns bank and card statements into accurate, reconciliation-ready spreadsheets. Here is what you get.

Nothing to Install

It runs in your browser on any operating system. No download, no per-machine license, no software updates to manage.

QBO on the Plus Plan

Export a QuickBooks QBO file from the same upload on Plus, or use Excel and CSV on any plan, so you are not buying a separate product per output format.

OCR Included for Scans

Scanned PDFs and phone photos work out of the box in PDF, JPG, PNG, BMP, HEIC, and TIFF, with no separate OCR add-on to buy.

90+ US Banks Supported

Templates tuned to the layouts and date formats US banks and card issuers actually use.

Metered by Page, Not Statement

Starter carries 2,500 pages a month, so twenty short card statements cost the same share of the plan as their page count, not twenty conversions.

Private by Default

256-bit encryption in transit and you can delete your uploaded data at any time.

Convert a Bank Statement in 3 Steps

No download and no setup. The first 15 pages need no credit card.

1

Upload

Drop in a PDF or scanned bank statement. Multi-page and multi-month files work.

Tip: Password-protected PDFs are supported.

2

Convert

The AI extracts every transaction into structured columns automatically.

Tip: Scanned statements are read with built-in OCR.

3

Download

Export to Excel or CSV, then import into your accounting software.

Tip: QBO export is on the Plus plan.

MoneyThumb vs BankXLSX: which converter fits your workflow

MoneyThumb and BankXLSX both turn PDF bank statements into structured data, but they are built for different habits. MoneyThumb is a family of desktop converters (pdf2qbo, pdf2csv, pdf2ofx, pdf2qif) now sold mainly as MoneyThumb Online, designed to push data into QuickBooks and Quicken through QBO and QFX files. BankXLSX is a browser-based converter built around the spreadsheet: one upload gives you Excel, CSV or JSON, and on the Plus plan a QBO file as well. The table below lays out the practical differences.

When MoneyThumb is the better choice

MoneyThumb has served QuickBooks and Quicken users for years, and for some workloads it is the better buy. Because it charges per statement, a firm whose clients send long business checking statements, 20 or 30 pages each, gets far more out of a conversion than a page-metered plan would give. And if you are underwriting loans rather than keeping books, its PDF Insights line scores the applicant from the statement, which is a different product category altogether. If those points describe you, MoneyThumb is a solid pick.

When BankXLSX is the better fit

BankXLSX is the better fit when statements are short, numerous, or scanned. A bookkeeper converting 60 one and two page card statements a month needs the $99.95 Pro plan on MoneyThumb, while the same 90 or so pages use a small share of the 2,500 page Starter allowance. OCR for scans and phone photos is included rather than sold as a $199.95 add-on, and one upload gives you Excel, CSV and JSON, with QBO added on Plus. One limit is worth knowing up front: Starter caps a single statement at 25 pages, so very long statements need Plus. For a wider view across tools, see the best bank statement converter software guide.

Getting statements into QuickBooks from either tool

Both tools can hand QuickBooks a QBO Web Connect file, so the import step is the same: in QuickBooks Online, Bank transactions then Upload from file; in Desktop, File, Utilities, Import, Web Connect Files. On BankXLSX the QBO export sits on the Plus plan. On Starter you export CSV instead and map the columns during upload, which QuickBooks Online accepts in a 3 column or 4 column layout. Our walkthrough on how to convert bank statements to QuickBooks covers both routes, and firms on Xero can follow the steps for importing bank statements into Xero.

Switching from MoneyThumb without redoing your history

Anything MoneyThumb already converted stays in your ledger, so a switch only affects statements from here on. Run one month through both tools before you commit and compare the row count, the closing balance and how each handles your bank's check images and daily balance tables. If your practice is on QuickBooks Desktop and prefers an import that skips the bank feed review, the bank statement to IIF converter is another route, and firms comparing per-page tools should read the DocuClipper alternative page, since DocuClipper meters pages too.

How much does MoneyThumb cost?

MoneyThumb prices its online converter by conversions rather than by pages or by seat, which makes it hard to compare against page-based tools until you translate the numbers. One conversion means one statement file, and MoneyThumb states that reconverting the same file does not consume another conversion. These are the plans listed on its converter pages, re-checked in September 2026.

MoneyThumb Online planMonthlyAnnualConversions includedAimed at
Individual$24.95 per month$199.95 per year5 a month, or 60 a yearPersonal finance apps
Standard$49.95 per month$399.95 per year20 a month, or 240 a yearSmall businesses, unlimited users
Pro$99.95 per month$799.95 per year60 a month, or 800 a yearAccountants and bookkeepers, priority support

Do the per-file math before you pick a tier, because it moves a lot. MoneyThumb itself works the arithmetic out on its pricing page: the Individual monthly plan comes to about $4.99 a conversion, while Pro annual comes to $1.00. The annual plans are listed as saving 33 percent against paying monthly, and the Pro annual plan adds an auto-refill option for firms that burn through the allowance. The store sells larger auto refill bundles too, up to 6,000 conversions for $3,999.95 on the spreadsheet and QuickBooks versions, while the Accounting and Quicken versions stop at 800 conversions for $799.95. Its older desktop converters are no longer offered for sale.

The unit that matters is a statement file, not a page. If your clients send you 40-page business checking statements, a conversion-metered plan is generous. If they send you dozens of short one-page card statements, the same plan runs out fast while a page-based plan barely notices. BankXLSX meters pages: the Starter plan at $49 a month, or $24 a month billed yearly, covers 2,500 pages, and a new account can convert 15 pages once with no card, so you can measure your own documents before choosing either model.

What MoneyThumb Online supports on the QuickBooks side

MoneyThumb states that its .qbo output imports into every QuickBooks Online edition except Self Employed, and into QuickBooks Desktop versions from 2023 through 2025. That version window is worth checking against your own installation before you buy, particularly if you are running an older Desktop file. If your destination is QuickBooks Online rather than Desktop, a mapped CSV imports natively and no .qbo file is required at all, which our QuickBooks bank statement converter page walks through step by step. The bank statement QBO format page covers what actually has to be inside a .qbo file if you do need one.

How MoneyThumb pricing compares with the other tools buyers shortlist

Converters in this category meter three different ways and the cheapest headline is rarely the cheapest outcome. MoneyThumb charges per conversion. DocuClipper charges per page, and the current tiers are broken down on our DocuClipper pricing page, with the wider feature comparison on the DocuClipper alternative page. Desktop apps such as ProperConvert charge a flat subscription per device, covered on our ProperConvert alternative page. And bulk import layers such as SaasAnt meter credits and cap you at one company per plan, which our SaasAnt alternative comparison sets out. Work out your monthly volume in files, in pages, and in companies, then price all four against it. Prices move, so confirm the current figure on each vendor's own site before you commit.

Does MoneyThumb have an API?

Yes, but it is not a conversion API. MoneyThumb publishes an Insights API that exposes PDF Insights, its lending product, to a CRM. It hands back an underwriting scorecard and fraud signals, not rows in a spreadsheet, so a team that wants statements turned into data programmatically is looking at the wrong product. MoneyThumb does not publish a price for it and routes buyers to a demo request instead.

What MoneyThumb sells beyond the converters

MoneyThumb runs two product lines, and most comparison pages only look at one of them. The converters move statements into accounting formats. The lending line reads those same statements to underwrite a borrower, scoring negative balance days, low balance days and true revenue. That second line has no BankXLSX equivalent at all. If underwriting is what you actually need, MoneyThumb is the better buy, and our note on bank statement extraction software for lenders covers how that category is priced.

Can you still buy a MoneyThumb lifetime license?

Not from the MoneyThumb store. The 2qbo Convert Pro product page has been taken down and the store lists the desktop license as not for sale, so a new buyer in September 2026 is choosing between MoneyThumb Online subscriptions, not a one-time payment. The PLUS editions of the desktop app carried an annual fee after year one to keep the scanned statement feature, which is why the lifetime label never quite meant one payment for firms converting paper statements.

If you already run the desktop app, check your support and PDF+ renewal terms with MoneyThumb directly before a bank changes its statement layout, because parsers need updates to keep up. Then price the online plan you would move to against a page-metered plan at your real volume, counting both statements and pages.

MoneyThumb Alternative: Common Questions

It depends on statement length. MoneyThumb charges per statement, so Standard at $49.95 a month buys 20 statements of any length. BankXLSX charges per page, so Starter at $49 a month, or $24 billed yearly, buys 2,500 pages. Many short statements cost less on BankXLSX; a few very long ones can cost less on MoneyThumb.

MoneyThumb Online is priced per conversion: Individual is $24.95 a month or $199.95 a year for 5 conversions a month, Standard is $49.95 a month or $399.95 a year for 20, and Pro is $99.95 a month or $799.95 a year for 60, with unlimited users on the top two tiers. A conversion means one statement file, and reconverting the same file does not count again. Re-checked on MoneyThumb's converter pages in September 2026.

MoneyThumb Online runs in a browser, so it works on a Mac. Its older desktop converters were Windows-first and are no longer offered for sale. BankXLSX also runs entirely in the browser, on Mac, Windows and Chromebook, with nothing to install.

For people who specifically need bank and card statements turned into Excel or CSV, BankXLSX is a strong fit because it is browser-based, meters pages, includes OCR for scans, and exports QBO on the Plus plan. If your statements run to dozens of pages each, or you are underwriting loans with PDF Insights, MoneyThumb may suit you better. Match the tool to the job.

Yes, with PDF+, the scanned statement add-on MoneyThumb sells for $199.95. Without it the converters read native, digitally generated PDFs. BankXLSX includes OCR by default, so scanned PDFs and phone photos in JPG, PNG, HEIC, and TIFF convert without buying a separate add-on.

Yes. Upload your PDF or scanned statement to BankXLSX and it extracts every transaction into structured columns, then exports to Excel or CSV. You do not need MoneyThumb, a desktop install, or any setup to get a clean, reconciliation-ready spreadsheet from a bank statement.

With BankXLSX your upload is protected by 256-bit encryption in transit and you can delete your data at any time. Always use a converter that encrypts uploads and lets you control deletion. Review any tool's privacy and retention policy before sending financial documents.
